Hang on... are people taking the mick out of no-budget films here?
Just because you have that amount of money to spend on a film doesn't mean EVERYONE else should.
"De-value yourself"... listen 'mate'... if you have a big budget it's easier to make a film... one the resoures are right in frount of you and TWO you can hire a crew and make that do it for you. It is MUCH harder to make a film with no-budget which makes you CARE about each shot more... and not worrying about when the budget's gonna run out.
And plus, you sound like your in it just for the money ("value my time at"). We make films which we CARE about and put a lot of effort into it to make it good which is what a REAL film maker is... not someone who points the camera, shoots and waits for the pay check at the end of the day!
You should be ashamed of yourself. Call yourself a film maker? Huh...

Nope. A big part of filmmaking is getting the money together so that you can make the film you want.
Everyone knows that photography is expensive, getting good shots costs money.
Get the money, then you can forget about the money and concentrate on the art of it.
I dont think anyone on this forum is truly in it for the money, otherwise they wouldnt share ideas with others like they do.

I couldn't agree more. For the most part. When we are talking about "no budget" filmmaking... we are talking about the money spent on equipment, film, and the production itself. NOT what are plan or think we can make off it... Money is a huge part of film... christ... think how much money goes into just the film for an independent 30 minute 16mm short... if you have no idea.. here is my run down:
30 minutes of film is about 200 bucks not including credits, and titles. Now... if all is done properly, with cutaways and each scene shot twice then that means you are spending AT least 500 bucks...
NOW... Chances are that you are going to film TONS of extra stuff for editing purposes, and so that the film is great. therefore 500 dollars CANADIAN will still not be enough...
It is all about money and resources.
